This small portrait of Martin Dihigo I painted true to the underexposed and faded photographic source. He is surrounded by an interior frame of deep turquoise and fragments of matchbook covers and cigar labels, all of which comment on his island home of the Dominican Republic. The brass studs scattered across the frame and portrait indicate the positions he excelled at, which was everywhere on the field.
